Big Monkey, Little Monkey

Over the weekend, we took a trip on the Naked Bus up to a little town by the sea called Leigh.  Peter’s uncle David is friends with the family we stayed with who so graciously hosted us, never having met us before.  Ross, Sarah and their 3 year old son Tai showed us a fabulous time.  I wore a wetsuit for the first time in my life to go snorkling in the chilly water at Goat Island.  Ross showed us some lovely tramps around the area, through  forest filled with Kauri trees, alongside pastures filled with cows, and up and down many a hill.  Sarah provided beautiful sandwiches for lunch, (and I know what you’re thinking, but I am not featuring the sandwich song, at least not yet!) and delicious dinners.  Tai charmed us with his cute smile and songs from a kids TV program he watches.  As he sang the tune “Ay ay ay, ay ay ay…” our ears perked up and Peter and I looked at each other.  We thought we recognized the song.  Later that night, we had to check on Youtube of course and sure enough, we were right.  Apparently Kylie Minogue and a group called The Wiggles sing a cover of the famous Toots and the Maytals song Monkey Man.  Needless to say, it was in our heads all weekend, so here it is for all to enjoy!  The original version 🙂

Toots and the Maytals: Monkey Man

About wanderingsoundtrack

I write about my travel experiences and relate them to songs I already know, or have just heard or learned on the way. Listen along!
